Minneapolis has close to 500,000 residents and is the 46th largest city in the nation and is the largest city in the State. Although the state capital is in St. Paul, Minneapolis almost matches the number of public employees, with most of Hennepin Counties' facilities located in Minneapolis.
In 2018, the Minneapolis City council became the first large city in the U.S. to end zoning that favored single-family homes, an important practice, because, many houses in the city fell outside the existing zoning codes. Like Bloomington, roughly around 68 percent of the homes in Minneapolis were built in the 1950s and the 1960s. Minneapolis is much more diverse than other local communities with around 63 percent being caucasian, 18.5 percent being African American, 5.6 percent being Asian and 2 percent being Native American Indian.
The per capita income, of this more racially mixed community, results in a drop from around $41,000 per year in cities such as Bloomington, to only $36,000 in Minneapolis. This is still up from around $34,00 per year in the U.S. as a whole but is poor by Minnesota standards. Sadly, nearly 20 percent of those living in Minneapolis live below the poverty level, while places like Bloomington and other suburbs hit the 7 or 8 percent mark.
Minneapolis is a mix of 11 different neighborhoods, with some being much more affluent than others. For the middle tier of homes, the average price according to Zillow runs around $329,000. There are homes in Minneapolis as cheap as $200,000, and although older, they are still readily bought up. The average time from listing to closing of a house in Minneapolis is approximately 86 Days.
One of the great things about living in Minneapolis is its vibrancy. The downtown area is a hotbed of entertainment for young people, and of course, both the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins play in Minneapolis. As far as Education is concerned, the University of Minnesota is considered a top-tier school. Roughly 50 percent of all Minneapolis residents have a college degree, and Minneapolis has plenty of jobs for them, as the unemployment rate is a low 4.5 percent. Minneapolis does have a rather high crime rate compared to the suburbs, but the crime rate is not uniform across all 11 local districts.
Outside of the spike in crime, and some areas of racial tension, Minneapolis is a very calm place for families to raise children, and a great deal of gentrification in certain areas of the city has stopped the proverbial fleeing to the suburbs. Eden Prairie is next on our list!

"When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last winter I decided to do a ton of holistic healing and I went online to find a great Reiki expert. Kathy's info popped up and I called and set an appointment asap. THANK GOD I DID! My stress level was off the charts and after just one session with her I felt better, more relaxed, more grounded. It also cleared my head so I felt I could make proper decisions regarding the direction I would go with upcoming procedures. My fears were no longer running the show.
